MMHA 12th Annual Golf OutingJune 10, 2010
Photo Gallery of this great event! MMHA’s Golf Outing this year was a hole-in-one! We had over 100 golfers sign up and play at Mountain Branch Golf Club on Wednesday, June 10th. Mountain Branch is beautiful public golf course and is a regional favorite, conveniently located in Joppa, Md. Dubbed a “must-play” by Washington Golf Monthly, the Washington Times and Mid-Atlantic Golfer, the course is conditioned on par with the best private country clubs. And MMHA’s members arrived there, bright and early for a beautiful day of golf. The MMHA Golf Committee under the leadership of Chair June 10th started out foggy but quickly cleared up to reveal clear, bright blue summer skies and temperatures reached a balmy 90 degrees by early afternoon. In the morning, our players enjoyed a complementary breakfast provided by Apartment Services while lathering on sunscreen as they prepared for the day. The players enjoyed Mountain Branch’s engaging architecture featuring split fairways, rolling greens, rock and water features and breathtaking views. Combined with good food, great company, beautiful weather and a fantastic cause, these elements all came together for an unforgettable day of golf. The MMHA Golf Committee and Baltimore Station volunteers were hard at work all day selling raffle tickets to raise money for the Baltimore Station, an organization that assists United States veterans, who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, poverty and substance abuse. The event raised $10,000 to benefit the organization. This noteworthy cause provides job training, medical and legal assistance, employment counseling, and most importantly a helping hand and guidance through the recovery process. The MMHA wants to send a special “thank you” to each company that contributed to the cause. We especially want to thank our Tournament Sponsor; Carpet and Wood Floor Liquidators as well as our Corporate Sponsors, Southern Management. Additionally, we’d like to thank every volunteer who spent the day at the tournament hanging signs, picking up trash, and assisting anywhere help was needed. Your generosity is very much appreciated. The event was a complete success but only because of your generous donations and the help of our volunteers. Later in the afternoon our sun-kissed players made their way back to the pavilion for our barbeque and some ice cold drinks, catered by Mountain Branch’s Grille. We enjoyed seeing our winners receive their prizes. We had many talented golfers in attendance and the fight for first place was evident. Winning first place through a tie-breaker with a score of 60 Mike Nichols, Adam Katz, Dave Wine, and Scott Owens. Our second place winners also with a score of 60 were; Mike Sweeney, John Warring III, Jim Gerard, and Bob Turner. And last, but certainly not least, our third place winners with a score of 61, also winning through a tie-breaker were; Mark Harrington, Greg Harris, Rick Cumor, and Larry Knowles. We had a contest for the men’s and women’s Longest Drive which were won by Dennis Dietz and Tina Schildgen, followed by the Closest to the Pin Contest, which was won by Steve Blucher. The first, second, and third place winners won gift cards to Mountain Branch’s pro shop. We gave out some great door and raffle prizes, many provided by our generous sponsors and players. Our lucky winner’s won golf clubs, and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, and so much more. But at the end of the day, it seemed as though everybody was a winner because we spent a beautiful summer afternoon enjoying great weather, great friends and golf. MMHA is committed to improving our events in any way that we can so if you have any questions, comments, or concerns we would love to hear them.
