MMHA’s Fair Housing course provides the information that enables leasing, on-site, maintenance, and executive staff to become proactive to prevent fair housing violations. It’s a must-attend for newcomers to the industry as well as experienced property management professionals.
This class is designed to provide property management professionals with a comprehensive understanding of fair housing regulations, their implementation, and the consequences of non-compliance. The course covers topics such as protected classes, reasonable accommodation, and advertising guidelines, among others.
By taking this class, individuals will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to ensure that their properties comply with all fair housing laws. They will learn how to handle requests for reasonable accommodations, navigate the tenant screening process, and avoid discriminatory practices. Additionally, the class provides an opportunity for property management professionals to network with their peers and share best practices in the industry.

La Ley de Vivienda Justa y otras leyes federales, estatales y locales de equidad de Vivienda ofrecen protección contra aquellos que practiquen tratos discriminatorios en la vivienda basados en la raza, el sexo, la religión, el color, la discapacidad, el estado familiar o el origen nacional.
· Negar o prohibir el alquiler o la venta de una vivienda
· Trato diferenciado de los solicitantes de una vivienda
· Trato diferenciado de los residentes en relación con los términos y las condiciones de la vivienda
· Hacer la publicidad de las preferencias de la vivienda
· Proporcionar información falsa acerca de la disponibilidad de una vivienda

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Oscar Rodriguez Aguila, CPM®

Oscar Rodriguez Aguila, CPM® has over 25 years of experience in real estate management. He began his career in Property Management as a Maintenance Technician worker, moving up the ladder in the industry until earning the Certified Property Manager (CPM ®) and the Accredited Management Organization accreditations from IREM.
Oscar co-founded ProActive Realty Investments, an Accredited Management Organization (AMO) and was the Executive CPM® for the firm from 2009 to 2024. ProActive is a family-oriented management firm that offers hands-on experience and proactive management skills to improve properties, safeguard investments, and provide quality housing. The firm works to understand cultural differences and build a strong bond of mutual responsibility between landlords and tenants.
Mr. Aguila specializes in Residential properties including Apartments and Affordable Housing programs. The range of experience incurred during these years in the real estate field have given him a well-rounded understanding of the different dynamics that may benefit or interfere with the success in managing real estate investments in Southern California’s diverse population . Oscar has worked jointly with local officials, law enforcement and non-profit agencies to improve the existing housing conditions of under-privileged neighborhoods in Orange County while attempting to motivate young generations to pursue higher education and break the cycle of poverty.
Mr. Aguila previously has published newspaper columns in the field of Real Estate for the Latino Spanish- speaking community and serves in multiple local Board of Directors and executive committees since 2004. Oscar continues to serve as the Board Chair of the Fair Housing Council of Orange County, a respected non-profit organization to honor the memory of one of his mentors who co-founded the agency in 1965.
Oscar currently serves as the Vice-President of Education with IREM Orange County and is passionate about educating the next generation of professionals. Mr. Aguila is committed to bringing change to the industry by leading the cause for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Oscar wants to use his professional accomplishments to assist and inspire others to meet theirs regardless of their background.
Oscar was born in Mexico, grew up in Orange California, attended the local school district and community college. Oscar graduated from California State University Fullerton in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree.
Oscar leads by example, both in his profession and personal life. Oscar is an advocate against inequality, domestic violence and other social issues that dehumanize a person’s integrity. He is committed to making a difference in people’s lives by collaborating with agencies whose missions are affordable housing, higher education, and fair housing.
